20-21 Open Exhibition of Art and Sculpture

Open Exhibition 2022

29 January to 23 April 2022

20-21 Visual Arts Centre is proud to present its biggest ever Open Exhibition of Art & Sculpture. The call for entries resulted in one of the biggest turnouts for Open submissions in recent years. Artists from across the DN, LN and HU postal areas took the time to bring in their artwork, including many old friends of the gallery and lots of new faces too. It is fantastic to see so much art being made locally, despite the challenges of the past couple of years.

In this, the twentieth anniversary year 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, the decision has been made to show our appreciation for all artists from the region by including every artwork submitted!

This means there are over 300 paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints, textiles, collages, photographs and videos in this year’s show – covering a huge range of subjects. It was a massive technical challenge to fit everything in but it’s been worth it to mark this special year.

Awards

Our judges this year were Melanie Tomlinson, who recently exhibited at 20-21, and Andrew Bracey, international artist and programme leader for MA Fine Art at the University of Lincoln. Judging took place during February, with the results being announced shortly after.

First prize in this celebratory year is £1,000 plus an artist profile/promo video created by Know Film. Additional prize categories have been sponsored by Holls Electricals, Premier Roofing, John Espin Signs and Barrier Services. Prizes were awarded at an event sponsored by RNS Chartered Accountants.

Our visitors had a say in the awards too, with a People’s Choice award of £100 to be decided by public vote.
