Volunteering opportunities

20-21 Visual  Arts Centre is situated in Church Square, Scunthorpe and is 5 minutes from the Bus Station and 15 minutes from the Railway Station. The art centre which has four indoor and one outdoor display areas which host a regular changing program of contemporary visual arts and crafts exhibitions and related events and activities.

The centre also has a light and airy cafe and shop which provides a wide range of ceramics, glassware, jewellery, and greetings cards. We also offer an education service to schools, colleges, community groups and meeting, training days and conferences.

Volunteer opportunities are available for the following, a Gallery Assistant, Special Events Gallery Assistant, Receptionist and  Art and Play Assistant.

The Gallery Assistant will support the preparation of various activities that run throughout the year and for our events days. No specific qualifications or skills are needs and the role would be working with the general public. Therefore it would be beneficial to have good communication skills, enthusiasm and willingness to get involved.

The Special Events Gallery Assistant is as above, with the added opportunity to promote events with a member of the 20-21 staff, via a stall in places such as Scunthorpe High Street.

The Receptionist  is the first port of call for all visitors they will answer the door and phone, take messages and carry out basic administrative tasks. It would be beneficial to have the ability to work on own initiative and without close supervision. Be Friendly, welcoming have good communication skills. A methodical approach, good IT skills including Word, Outlook Express and Excel. Understanding of issues surrounding confidentiality and working in compliance with policies and procedures. Have a willingness to undertake any other duties and training as reasonably requested.

The Art and Play Assistant will need to have some experience of working in a child care setting and be 16+. The role involves showing visitors around the gallery and assisting with the interpretation of the exhibits and assisting with the activities. An interest in contemporary art, craft and design with a willingness to work Saturdays and the school holidays would be beneficial. Training will be given and support by the 20-21 staff.
