Volunteering opportunities

Volunteering can be a great way to gain experience and confidence in the workplace, or alternatively just to make good use of spare time and get to know new people.

If you’re looking to gain experience in the culture sector or art related careers we can offer relevant volunteering opportunities.  Alternatively, we also appreciate approaches from volunteers whose interest is in hospitality, administration, retail, education or early years.  Volunteer opportunities are available for the following:

  • Gallery Assistant
  • Special Events Gallery Assistant
  • Art and Play Assistant
  • Receptionist
  • Technician

The Gallery Assistant will support the preparation of various activities that run throughout the year and for our events days.  No specific qualifications or skills are needs and the role would be working with the general public.  Therefore it would be beneficial to have good communication skills, enthusiasm and willingness to get involved.

The Special Events Gallery Assistant is as above, with the added opportunity to promote events with a member of the 20-21 staff, via a stall in places such as Scunthorpe High Street.

The Receptionist  is the first port of call for all visitors.  They welcome visitors, answer the telephone, take messages and carry out basic administrative tasks.  It would be beneficial to have the ability to work on your own initiative and without close supervision.  You need to be friendly and welcoming, and have good communication skills.  The role requires a methodical approach and good IT skills including Word, Outlook Express and Excel.  It is essential that you have an understanding of the importance of issues surrounding confidentiality and working in compliance with policies and procedures.  Have a willingness to undertake any other duties and training as reasonably requested.

The Art and Play Assistant will need to have some experience of working in a child care setting and be 16+. The role involves showing visitors around the gallery and assisting with the interpretation of the exhibits and assisting with the activities. An interest in contemporary art, craft and design with a willingness to work Saturdays and the school holidays would be beneficial. Training will be given and support by the 20-21 staff.
