Paul Collinson: Dreaming of the Middle Ages

Paul Collison, Mythological landscape with centaur and roman temple

18 February to 3 June 2017

For Dreaming of the Middle Ages, Hull-based artist Paul Collinson presents a new series of large-scale paintings that question modern society. Named after an essay by the Italian philosopher Umberto Eco, this exhibition explores the archetypes of the Western world via traditional landscapes and classical architecture, combined with contemporary elements, such as gaming, AirFix models and advertising. Each painting is meticulously planned, multi-layered and questions the meaning of “utopia,” as well as exploring the pitfalls of consumerism and big business propaganda.
