Brilliant People Like Us, is a bright and energetic exhibition – the result of an eight-month experimental exchange that brought together two groups of artists with additional needs.
20-21 Visual Arts Centre’s Get Crafty group joined members of ArtWorks Sheffield, for a colourful collaboration – enjoying fun, learning, inspiration and growth. The groups went on road trips to visit each other, shared knowledge, and made new friends.
They worked collectively to produce large scale paintings, as well as making their own individual artworks. Expect everything from a giant rooster to a cloud of colourful butterflies, alongside paintings showing everything from England playing Spain in the European Championships, to vibrant summer seaside scenes.
Guest artists were invited to help the groups develop creative skills. The collaboration has had many positive outcomes, with group members discovering hidden talents, new materials and perhaps most importantly, lasting friendships and new connections.
It was 100% brilliant!
About Get Crafty
Get Crafty is 20-21’s regular art and craft group for people with additional needs aged 16+. Sessions include free themed workshops, and run every Wednesday from 1.30pm to 3pm. Artworks is a not for profit creative arts organisation based in Sheffield and Rotherham. They inspire and help adults with learning disabilities to achieve their potential and develop important life skills through creative workshops and placements.
