We’re delighted to welcome back a new series of our ‘Introducing’ exhibitions, showcasing the best creative talent in the region. For our first ‘Introducing’ show of 2022 we present ’88 and Out’ by Scunthorpe-based photographer Ian Lee.
Ian worked for British Steel for over 30 years, and as a keen photographer, documented many parts of the mills in Scunthorpe during that time.
Coinciding with the launch of a new book, the ’88 and Out’ exhibition documents the 88 year history and eventual decommissioning of the Scunthorpe Plate Mill. The exhibition presents selected photographs from over 300 images included in the book, alongside historical photographs from the British Steel archive, photos by Ian of the functioning mill, and finally spectacular images taken during the demolition process.
Alongside the artworks on display, is a large selection of signs, objects, original plans and paperwork, recovered from the mill prior to the demolition process.
