Introducing: Craig Davison
In the final of our ‘Introducing’ series of exhibitions showcasing the work of talented artists based in the local area, we present work by Epworth based artist Craig Davison.
Craig worked as a commercial artist and illustrator for many years. His career includes illustrating for pre-school comics such as The Wombles and Bangers & Mash, working as an animator and modelmaker for a computer games company, and as a freelance sculptor, creating everything from dragons to action figures, for toy ranges such as Harry Potter and Doctor Who.
In more recent years he has found success as an artist in his own right, and his distinctive and popular paintings, prints and sculptures have been a top seller in commercial galleries across the UK.
With a background in comic books, animation and video games, Craig has carved out a niche specialising in his own mix of pop culture infused childhood innocence. His shadow series of paintings takes homage from all areas of pop culture including Star Wars, Marvel Superheroes, Hollywood as well as television and encapsulates the innocence of fantasy and role play that children take from their idols and harnesses it in action enthused imagery.

Introducing: Zoe Steele
Zoe’s evocative paintings cover themes of nostalgia, familiarity, comfort, childhood and recollection. She works primarily in oil painting; using glazing as a way of replicating the effects produced by classical dark room processes, giving a subtle nod back to the source of her work which is photography.
The subjects of Zoe’s works hover between the mundane and dramatic. Despite clear references to historic vehicles, and vintage themes, the works have a timeless quality – leaving the viewer to question whether these are real scenes at all, or just fragments of a dream or fabricated memory? Do the works have a undisclosed history in the real world? or is it the viewers role to invent one?

Introducing: Julie Oxenforth
For the second in the 2022 ‘Introducing’ series, highlighting the work of talented artists working in the local area – we present ‘Pandemonium’, a new exhibition by Julie Oxenforth.
Julie is a mixed media artist and spoken word poet, who returned to her hometown of Scunthorpe in 2014. With an art school background of sculpture and painting, Julie’s practice developed into the inclusive medium of installation during her MA Fine Art at Sunderland University.
In this exhibition, all the parts collectively create a whole vision – combining themes of play, puzzles, spirituality and environment. It aims to weave together disparate threads, to represent a contemporary state of mind and a search for balance in the digital age of emoticons, popular symbols and repetition.
