Garden Music
Trevor Millum
When we left, the garden band was playing quietly.
Geraniums and calendulas keeping rhythm,
Bass provided by the vibrant foliage
And some high notes from allium and aquilegia.
A few days later we returned to find an orchestra
In full voice appassionato in our back yard!
Foxgloves trumpeting in purple harmony,
Peony blossoms with melodious bling,
On piccolo and clarinet: daisies and linaria,
And roses, roses, roses in a glorious chorus.
All we could do was gaze and then applaud.
