December 2023 marked the start of a huge restoration programme by UK Restoration on the former St John’s Church part of the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre. A 40 week programme for work will take us through till July 2024.
UK Restoration has been working hard re-roofing the Nave, Aisles, Vestry, Porch and Transpet. Already you can see the results of the restoration on the limestone carvings, huge 4 metre pinnacles, grotesques and gargoyles.
Internally the church section of the Visual Arts Centre will be closed from December so a new BMS (Building Management System) can be added to the Centre. Timber repairs and masonry works will also be taking place. The glazing to the building will also be restored with the added ability to open the high level windows automatically. We can’t wait to see this stunning Grade II listed building restored to it’s former glory for the whole community and beyond to enjoy.
Please note that we are currently partially closed.
Our  largest gallery space (former Church section) is currently closed to the public but our Linear gallery is still open for our current ‘Scunthorpe Through Our Eyes’ exhibition as is our Café, Shop and ARTivity Table. Come and take a look and give the UK Restoration team a wave!
Here at 20-21 We can’t wait to re open the main gallery space in the Summer with a varied programme of Visual Art Exhibitions starting with our new canine themed show ‘It’s a Dog’s Life!’ Artists include Sophie Ryder, David Shrigley, Mychael Barratt, Martha Todd, Holy Smoke, Shauna Richardson and Gerrard Gethins.
